Mario Gomez,35, a reporter with El Heraldo de Chiapas, was shot dead on September 21, by unidentified in the southern state of Chiapas. He was leaving his house when gunmen fired at him. He died in the hospital. Gomez had complained to the police about threats he had received recently. According to El Heraldo, Gomez had also been threatened in 2016 for publishing articles on corruption by two state officials, according to the media rights group Article 19.
