Freelance reporter K. K. Saji died in a boat accident in Kariyar river in the Kottayam region in India on July 23, 2018. Saji was covering floods in Kerala state with four other members of a crew working for the television news channel Mathrubhumi. On their way back after the reporting, their boat capsized. Three members of the crew were rescued but Saji and the crew’s driver went missing after the accident. Saji’s body was found the next day.
