Laion Espindula, a reporter at Globoesporte.com website, was killed on Nov. 28, 2016 in the crash of LaMia Flight 2933 in Colombia, which claimed the lives of 71 of the 77 people aboard. The aircraft was carrying the Brazilian Chapecoense football squad from Bolivia to Colombia, where Espindula, 29, was scheduled to cover the squad’s match in the first leg of the 2016 Copa Sudamericana Finals in Medellín. Espindula was one of 20 journalists and media workers killed in the crash.
