The International Press Institute (IPI) is proud to be a partner of the upcoming Fundamental Rights Forum 2016, set to be held in Vienna from June 20 to 23 under the banner “Rights, Respect, Reality: the Europe of Values in Today’s World”.

Organised by the EU Agency for Fundamental Rights (FRA), the Forum will focus on the themes of Inclusion, Refugee Protection and the Digital Age and will offer forward-looking perspectives on rights-based governance, empowering rights holders, and fundamental rights-compliant sustainable growth. For more information about the programme, visit the conference website.

The Fundamental Rights Forum 2016 aims to have a tangible impact for the benefit of everyone in the EU, and the media has an important role to play. For that reason, accredited journalists from print, broadcast, and online media outlets are invited to attend and cover this important event at no cost. Participants will join over 400 leading decision-makers and experts from EU institutions, governments and parliaments, international organisations, and civil society from over 28 countries.

High-profile speakers include, among others, the First Vice-President of the European Commission, Frans Timmermans, and U.N. High Commissioner for Human Rights, Zeid Ra’ad Zeid Al Hussein. Political theorist Benjamin R. Barber and filmmaker Gianfranco Rosi will also participate in panel debates and be available to speak with media representatives. The Forum, with some 27 workshops, six panel debates, and 10 talks, will be held at the Messe Wien Exhibition & Congress Center, where a Media Center will be available for journalists. Access is subject to prior accreditation online.

All events will be streamed live in English, French and German. Follow the Forum on Facebook and Twitter using the hashtag #rightsforum16.
