Zeeshan Butt, Pakistan

Zeeshan Butt was a journalist that worked for “Nawa I Waqt” daily newspaper, based in Lahore. He was fatally shot in the course of his duty, on March 27th 2018.

Butt had travelled to Sialkot, in Pakistani Punjab, to investigate the complaints of local shopkeepers about a newly imposed tax. He was asking questions in the Union Council Office where he was shot, during an interview over the phone; in fact the gun shots can be heard on the recording of the phone call.

No one was convicted the case of his murder, yet Sialkot Union Council Chairperson Imran Cheema is the main suspect. Butt was in his office when the tragic events transcribed.
