Ghanaian Times Presidential Correspondent Samuel Nuamah died on Aug. 20, 2015 in a traffic accident. He and other journalists were returning to Accra after covering President John Mahama’s attendance at the annual convention of the Evangelical Presbyterian Church in Ho, the capital of Ghana’s Volta Region, when a tire on the minibus in which they were travelling burst and the driver lost control. Nuamah reportedly suffered severe head injuries when he was thrown from the vehicle as it somersaulted. A number of other journalists were also injured, some critically. The minibus had been chartered by a member of the president’s staff. Local news outlets said members of the presidential press corps had previously complained about the safety of vehicles chartered by presidential staffers, to no avail.
