Syrian photojournalist Saleh Mahmoud Laila, working for Turkish state Anadolu Agency, was killed on Oct. 8, 2015 in a suicide car bomb attack in a marketplace in the opposition-held town of Hraytan, Syria, north of Aleppo. Laila was one of 20 people killed in the attack, which was carried out by the Islamic State. In July 2015, Laila survived an airstrike in Syria and was sent to Turkey for recovery, but he later returned to Syria to continue covering the country’s ongoing conflict.
