On July 22, Mexican journalist Ricardo Dominguez López, owner of news website InfoGuaymas, was shot to death in the parking lot of a supermarket on his 47th birthday. Prior to the murder, Ricardo López had been the victim of multiple digital attacks and forced internal displacement derived from the risk he was in. On November 4, 2020, the journalist in a video denounced the municipal police of Guaymas for creating false accounts to attack and discredit the media. He pointed directly to Andrés Cano Ahuir, director of Public Security of Guaymas and made him responsible for anything that might happen to him. On March 29, 2021, at a press conference, López again denounced being a victim of a smear campaign and therefore decided to leave Guaymas along with other members of InfoGuaymas.
