On February 11, 2022, Heber López, journalist and the director of RCP Noticias Web was assassinated in his recording studio in Salina Cruz, in the Oaxaca province of Mexico. As a reporter, López covered local government and the police, as well as problems with the federal government project ‘Breakwater’ in Salina Cruz. In 2019, he reported threats from a guard of the former mayor of Salina Cruz, Juan Carlos Atecas.
