Guatemala journalist Hamilton Hernandez was killed along with his wife on Nov. 6, 2016 near the town of Coatepeque as they were riding a motorbike in a forested area. Hernandez had earlier made a report from a local hospital. Both Hernandez and his wife were shot in the head. Authorities said that they were treating the case as an execution related to Hernandez’s work, even though he had not reported receiving threats, as the assailants did not take the victims’ belongings.
