Edwin Josué Andino, Honduras

On October 10, 2022, television journalist Edwin Josué Andino was killed along with his father close to the capital of Honduras, Tegucigalpa. Unknown assailants reportedly dressed as police officers forced their way into the journalist’s home in Comayagüela, a city next to Tegucigalpa, and kidnapped him. According to the Honduran free expression group C-Libre, the journalist’s body was found in a different neighbourhood. He appeared to have died from several gunshots to the face, and he had tape covering his mouth. His father’s body was found in a different neighbourhood, around 15 kilometres from where Andino’s body was found.

The journalist worked for the television channel La Tribuna TV in Tegucigalpa. The station’s director Raúl Morazán told AFP that Andino had worked for the channel for two years and was unaware of any threats against the journalist.

Two days later, on October 12, the police said it had taken two cars used by the shooters, which were found in a warehouse with plastic handcuffs, tape, and traces of blood, to forensic examiners. On October 15 and 18, police arrested several people with alleged ties to the Barrio 18 gang, including four people who are allegedly connected to the killings of the journalist and his father.
