Carlos Williams Flores, Honduras – Under Investigation

Gunmen on motorcycles shot and killed Honduran journalist Carlos Williams Flores in the village of Tegucigalpita, in northern Honduras near the border with Guatemala, on Sept. 13, 2017. Flores worked for Canal 22 in Cuyamel and directed the program “Sin pelos en la lengua” (Without mincing words). The gunmen appeared to have been waiting for Williams, who died after he was taken to a medical centre. A co-worker accompanying Williams was wounded in the attack, but survived. Williams had been critical of agricultural companies blamed for deforestation and also reportedly owned a pool hall where a police officer was killed two months earlier. The motive for the killing was not immediately known.
