On November 20, 2021, journalist and director of the state-owned Radio Abdiaziz Mohamud Guled was killed by a suicide bomber. The lone person wearing a suicide vest approached Abdiaziz’s vehicle and detonated his bomb as Abdiaziz and colleagues were leaving a local restaurant where they had a dinner. Abdiaziz died while the director of the state-owned Somali National TV, Sharma’arke Mohamed Warsame and their driver Abdukadir Dhagahow were injured. Responsibility for the explosion was later claimed by the terrorist Islamist organization Al-Shabaab, about which Guled reported extensively at Radio Mogadishu.
