“United News” TV service hacked, broadcasts Russian content

On 7 November 2023, Ukraine’s “United News” service (a commom TV news service co-managed by Ukraine’s main TV channels, as a “united informational front” following the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion) was attacked by unknown hackers, who broadcasted Russian content on its waves. The news was reported by Detector Media, a Ukrainian media watchdog, which quoted anonymous sources. According to Detector Media, the attack on the satellite services used by ” United News” took place between 4 p.m. and 5 p.m. local time. Following this time period, technical services were able to reestablish full control over the broadcasts. The hackers broadcasted Russian music and videos, as well as a message claiming that Ukrainians “could not hide” from being drafted into the army. The attack was repeated on November 9: according to Detector Media, TV channel Rada (which is run by the Ukrainian parliament, and which is part of the “United News” service) broadcasted Russian music for a period of time during the day.
