Correspondent Sonia Lukashova and chief editor Sevgil Musaieva, both working for the independent outlet Ukrainska Pravda, received death threats following the publication of an article by Lukashova about the dismissal of former Ukrainian ombudsman Lyudmyla Denisova. Lukashova alleged that Denisova was removed from her posting for exaggerating some of Russia’s war crimes in Ukraine. In the days following the release of the article, both journalists began to receive death threats on their social media, as well as through personal messages on their phones. Lukashova’s name and personal information were added to the Ukrainian nationalist website Myrotvorets on June 27. Musaieva’s name was included on June 30. Both were accused of “manipulating socially significant information” and “activity incompatible with journalistic ethics”.
