On 6 September 2025, Natalia Panchenko, who works as a producer for Ukraїner po polsku, an online media project about Ukraine in Polish, reported that she had been targeted in deepfake videos which used her identity. Panchenko said that the videos falsely presented her as endorsing pro-Russian narratives, including content suggesting that she supported Russian positions on the war in Ukraine.
“Deepfakes are spreading, in which artificial intelligence ‘impersonates my voice’ and puts hateful words about Polish people into my mouth. This is absolutely NOT me!”, Panchenko wrote, commenting on the case on her Facebook page.
The Ukraїner producer requested that platforms on which the deepfake videos were published remove them, and called on authorities to investigate those responsible for the misuse of her identity. She said that the incident damaged her professional reputation and could pose risks to her personal safety.
Panchenko did not specify who she thought could be behind the deepfake videos.
