On September 18, 2023, three journalists – like Ndunda of Kamba TV, Richard Muasya of Athiani FM, and Boniface Mutisya of Kamba TV – were attacked by a gang during a botched chang’aa den (a popular drink spot for traditionally made brewed spirit) raid in Matungulu, Machakos county, in Kenya. The gang assaulted them during their reportage. The trio sustained injuries as a result of the attack and were rushed to hospital for medical treatment. According to reports, Matungulu sub-county police Commander Peter Omondi said he wasn’t aware of the incident of assault on the journalists, however, he promised would follow up on the matter and ensure that culprits would be apprehended and dealt with as per the law.
