On 21 March 2022, the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) said it expelled an unnamed German journalist accused of creating coverage in support of Russia. In a statement, the SBU representative in Ukraine’s Vinnytsia region said the journalist had come to Vinnytsia along with colleagues for reporting work, but was arrested and deported to her country of origin. Her colleagues reportedly agreed to leave Ukraine following this. According to the SBU, who showed a blurred photo of the journalist’s passport, she had earlier worked in the Moscow office of a German TV station, and from there had gone to occupied regions of Ukraine to film reports allegedly promoting the activities of the pro-Russian authorities there.
