Russian troops destroy Kherson TV tower amidst retreat

The transmission centre of the Kherson TV tower was deliberately destroyed by Russian military as they prepared to evacuate the war-torn city. According to IMI, residents said the tower had been blown up but parts of it were still intact. The TV tower was a target along with mobile phone towers the city’s electricity grid. The act cut the TV signal for thousands of the city’s residents. The TV tower was occupied by Russian forces shortly after troops took control of the strategic city in March 2022. Troops then cut off the signal of Ukrainian television and replaced it with broadcasts from Russia’s TV2 channel, which contained propaganda about the war. The Kherson regional prosecutor’s office has started criminal proceedings on the facts of the seizure and destruction of the building of the Kherson branch of the Public Broadcaster by the Russian security forces. Proceedings were opened under Art. 341, Part 1 of Art. 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
