On 28 October 2025, a Russian FPV (first-person view) drone strike on Nikopol in Dnipropetrovsk Oblast targeted the editorial office of the local newspaper Pivdenna Zorya. Since the start of the full-scale invasion, Nikopol and the Nikopol district have been under constant shelling.
No one was injured in the attack. According to chief editor Inna Shvydka, the drone struck the corner of the building where the newspaper’s office is located: “It’s good that the drone attack occurred in the evening this time, when there was no one in the office. And again, like in 2022, the only window in our office was damaged. The shell had some very weird stuffing: it pierced glass, film, and plywood panels, damaged the interior door to the hallway and the furniture. It flew through everything and exploded in the hallway.”
Nikopol is located on the northern bank of the Dnipro river. The southern bank of the river near Nikopol has been under occupation by Russian forces since 2022. As a result of its location, the city of Nikopol is regularly targeted by Russian forces.
