Russia designates three TV Rain journalists as ‘foreign agents’

On 28 October 2022, the Russian Justice Ministry added three TV Rain media workers to its list of ‘foreign agents’. These were the media corporation’s founder and executive director Natalia Sindeeva, as well as TV presenters Yekaterina Kotrikadze and Vladimir Romensky.

The Russian Justice Ministry informed that they were officially designated as ‘foreign agents’ for allegedly receiving financing from Ukraine and for ‘carrying out political activity’. All three have publicaly demonstrated their support of Ukraine following the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion.

Journalists and companies designated as ‘foreign agents’ or ‘foreign agent media outlets’ are submitted to publication restrictions in Russia, and are obliged to declare their activities and revenues to the Russian Ministry of Justice.
