On 16 October 2023, Russia’s internet censor Roskomnadzor reported that it had blocked the website of the National Union of Journalists of Ukraine (NUJU), for allegedly disseminating “false information”. It was not immediately clear for the dissemination of what information NUJU had been blocked in Russia. However, the decision was reported on one day after an unspecified group of Russian hackers published a declaration online, stating that they had performed distributed denial of service (DDoS) attacks on a number of Ukrainian websites, including that of NUJU. Due to the attack, NUJU’s website was unavailable throughout the day, with the trade union reporting on the morning of October 16 that its website was again accessible.
