On February 17, 2024, Bernard Akede of News Central TV was assaulted by political party sympathizers while covering the governorship primary vote in Edo State. Akede sustained injuries. His phone was seized, although later retrieved, and his tripod was damaged. In a different incident on the same date, a reporter with the state-owned Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) was beaten. The presence of the State Commissioner of Police, Funsho Adeboye, with the party’s officials at the Centre, apparently did not deter the party sympathizers.
