On 10 February 2024, at least two journalists were detained while reporting on an anti-mobilization protests in Moscow, Russian independent media reported. One of the detained journalists was SOTAvision correspondent Yekaterina Anikievich. The identity of the other detained media worker remained unknown: he was identified by Russian media only as a male journalist. The same media shared a video recorded by one of the protesters, in which the face of the detained man is visible. That video, however, did not specify the journalist’s name or the media outlet he was affiliated with. Both detained journalists were released by police later in the day without charges. The protest they were reporting on was organized by Put Domoy (“Way Home”, in Russian), an association of relatives of mobilized soldiers who advocate for their return from the war in Ukraine. At least 27 journalists were briefly detained while reporting from a similar event a week earlier, which was organized on the 500th day since the announcement of mobilization in Russia.
