Police assaults journalists reporting on public protest

On September 22, 2023, the police in different incidents in Accra, Ghana, physically assaulted and prevented at least five journalists and media workers from reporting on a public demonstration against economic hardship in the country staged by a local political pressure group. Among the journalists assaulted were Maxwell Agbagba of JoyNews and his cameraman. Two journalists from Metro TV, whose names were not disclosed and  Thomas Naadi, a BBC journalist and his cameraman, were also among the victims of the  assaults. The MFWA condemned the incident and demanded accountability for the assaults on the journalists.
