On September 20, several journalists, including Salim Umar Ibrahim of Daily Trust and BBC Hausa reporter Zahraddeen Lawal, were attacked by the police while covering a court proceeding related to a petition on the Kano Governorship elections. According to Ibrahim, a police officer attacked him and other journalists at the scene for taking pictures. The police officer damaged his phone while attempting to forcibly seize it.
