On September 20, several journalists, including Salim Umar Ibrahim of Daily Trust and BBC Hausa reporter Zahraddeen Lawal, were attacked by the police while covering a court proceeding related to a petition on the Kano Governorship elections. According to Ibrahim, a police officer attacked him and other journalists at the scene for taking pictures. The police officer damaged his phone while attempting to forcibly seize it. Other police officers also went after a BBC reporter, trying to seize his camera and prevent him from taking pictures.
