The website of Novaya Gazeta Europe was blocked Russia. The editorial team said they were informed about the blocking by readers in Russia and from Global Check, a service for monitoring website availability. The editorial team did not receive prior warning or information from Russian internet and communications regulator Roskomnadzor that administrative action would be taken to block access to the website. Novaya Gazeta, one of Russia’s most storied independent news organisations, was forced to stop its publishing at the end of March because of a second threat it received from Roskomnadzor. The Novaya Gazeta staff members who left Russia founded Novaya Gazeta Europe.
