News site from Mariupol receives emailed threats to imprison staff

On 20 April 2022, Mariupol-based news website 0629.com.ua received an email from an account registered in Ukraine, which threatened the media’s staff with imprisonment in Siberia. The author of the threats claimed that the media engaged in “propaganda of the Ukrainian regime” and said 0629.com.ua journalists would have a “long-term vacation in jail” in Russia. Anna Murlykina, a journalist at the website, told IMI, a Kyiv-based NGO, that the media received such threats everyday, with most of these coming from email addresses registered on Russian phone numbers. Murlykina added that 0629.com.ua regularly files complaints for threats with the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU).
