The Moscow-based Tversk regional court found the journalist Evgeniy Kurakin guilty of violating rules about participation in public gatherings (Article 20.2 of the Code of Administrative Offences). The charges were based on the fact that the journalist photographed the solitary picqueter Aleksandr Roganov, who on June 28 was protesting in support of political prisoners in Moscow’s Red Square. The court ruled that Kurakin both covered the demonstration and participated in it. The judge refused to call the police officers who detained the journalist to testify as witnesses.
