On January 27, Mohamed Aminu Alabira, a journalist with the privately-owned media group Citi FM/Citi TV, was physically assaulted by the lawmaker Farouk Aliu Mahama of the ruling party, and his supporters in Yendi, a city in the northern region of Ghana. The assault on Alibara occurred when the journalist was covering the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary primary in the town. This attack was the second in a row during the party’s political activities and the third for both the ruling party and the opposition party, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) ahead of Ghana’s general elections.
