Journalists detained and beaten after protest in Khasavyurt

On 26 September 2022, police in Khasavyurt, a major city in the Russian region of Dagestan, detained journalists Idris Yusupov and Sergey Einbinder, who were both reporting from a local protest against the recent mobilization order in Russia. Yusupov, who works for online news portal Novoye Delo, was taken to a police station in a car along with protesters. Einbinder, who is the Editor-in-Chief of news website RusNews, was also transported in the same police car. He claimed police beat him during the trip and confiscated his equipment.

At least 24 journalists were detained in September during protests across Russia, at which demonstators opposed the recent mobilization order aiming to conscript male citizens into the Russian army in Ukraine.
