Journalist from Tatarstan region arrested and fined in absentia for “discrediting” the Russian army

On 2 December 2022, a court in Kazan, the capital of the Russian region of Tatarstan, fined local journalist Nailya Mullayeva 30,000 rubles for allegedly “discrediting” the Russian army. Mullayeva also received six days of administrative arrest for allegedly breaking legislation on mass gatherings. Moreover, her home in Kazan was searched in relation to another case against her, involving her alleged filming of a spray-paint attack on the Russian ambassador in Poland in May.

Neither the fine, nor the arrest warrant were carried out in practice, as Mullayeva no longer resides in Russia. The administrative proceedings against her were were set off after she reported from a protest against mobilization in Kazan on September 24.
