On 20 December 2022, journalist Kostiantyn Ryzhenko was allegedly shot at in Kyiv while returning from a military training ground on the outskirts of the city. Ryzhenko, who is originally from Kherson, claims he was shot at twice in the chest. He survived the attack with only minor injuries, as he was wearing a bulletproof vest on his way back from the training ground. Ryzhenko declared the incident to the State Security Service of Ukraine, which informed it had passed on the case to the national police force.
