On 22 June 2022, reporters from the German tabloid newspaper Bild came under fire in Ukraine on the road from Lysychansk, a town encircled by the Russian armed forces. Reporter Paul Ronzheimer, alongside photographers Giorgos Moutafis and Vadim Moissenko were not injured in the attack. One of the windows of the vehicle they were traveling in was broken as a result of the shelling. The road out of Lysychansk comes under frequent fire as it is one of the most commonly used paths to escaping the city. Following the attack, Ronzheimer claimed: “The attack shows that the Russian army makes no distinction between military and civilian targets, but simply bombs everything.” According to the journalists, after 30 minutes from the commencement of the shelling they were able to escape the area under fire.
