On November 12, 2023, unhappy supporters of the football club Olympique Club Renaissance du Congo violently assaulted journalist Akim Kakimosiko of the television channel Allô peuple TV in Kinshasa. The journalist was reporting on a match between OC Renaissance du Congo and Association Sportive Maniema Union de Kindu, which OC Renaissance lost. Angry supporters turned on the journalist, assaulting him and accusing him of being close to Pascal Mukuna, the former president of Olympique Club Renaissance du Congo. The journalist sustained severe injuries as a result of the attack. The local press freedom organization OLPA condemned the incident and called on the national football authorities to investigate the incident and bring the suspected culprits to justice.
