On 18 December 2024, former Russian president Dmitry Medvedev, who is now the deputy chairperson of Russia’s National Security Council, issued death threats targeting journalists working at The Times, in a post published on his Telegram channel.
In his post, Medvedev reacted to a recent opinion piece by The Times, in which the newspaper described the recent murder of a Russian general in Moscow for which Ukraine has claimed responsibility as a “legitimate act of defense” by Kyiv.
Medvedev called Times journalists “bastards”, adding that he believed that decision makers who support Ukraine are “legitimate military tactics” for Russia, as well as for “all Russian patriots”. “Jackals from The Times”, which Medvedev said are “accomplices” of these decision makers, “are now also a legal military target”.
“Isn’t this logical? Quite! And therefore, be careful! After all, a lot happens in London…,” Medvedev wrote.
