Authorities illegally detain journalist for over 43 days

On February 20, MM Somali TV founder Mohamed Abdi Ilig was released after over 43 days of imprisonment. Ilig was initially held in a detention facility operated by Somaliland National Intelligence before being transferred to police custody. He was unlawfully detained on January 6, 2024, after hosting an online debate on the Somaliland-Ethiopia maritime deal.The Maroodi Jeex Regional Court ruled that Ilig was illegally detained and ordered his immediate release.
