On October 10, 2023, elements of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) killed journalist Halima Idris Salim, a journalist of the online platform, Sudan Bukra, based in the UK. Salim was run over by an RSF vehicle when she was reporting in Omdurman Street, in Khartoum, the capital city of Sudan. The killing of Salim adds to the series of press freedom violations that journalists and media have faced since the outbreak on April 15 of the current conflict in Sudan between the Sudan Armed Force (SAF) and the RSF paramilitary. More than 200 journalists have been displaced, and several incidents of assaults on journalists and media outlets by both warring parties were reported, amid war propaganda from both parties, and threats against journalists online.
