Titled “Documenting Change / Empowering Media”, next year’s IPI World Congress in Amman, Jordan is a must for anyone who cares about press freedom.
The two and a half day event will examine the many challenges, concerns and opportunities facing journalists in a rapidly changing media landscape – not only in the Arab world, but around the globe.
Panels will focus on fostering free speech and media professionalism in the region after the Arab Spring; covering Syria; the role of women in the media; reporting on religion; criminal defamation; promoting and protecting the safety of journalists; and Internet regulation, among other issues.
The Congress will immediately follow the second annual Forum for Media Freedom Defenders in the Arab World, organised by the Amman-based Center for Defending Freedom of Journalists (CDFJ), which will chair the local host committee for the World Congress.
The annual IPI World Congress and 62nd General Assembly will feature a line-up of prominent figures from print, broadcast and new media, as well as renowned speakers from the fields of politics, business and academia.
