The International Press Institute (IPI) will hold its annual World Congress from May 18 to 20 in Hamburg, bringing together over 300 leading media representatives and experts, and more than 40 top international speakers, to discuss how to meet the challenges quality journalism faces today.
We are pleased, with the support of NDR, o offer a livestream on May 18 from Hamburg’s City Hall allowing you to watch the event’s opening ceremony; a town-hall-style debate with leading journalists from BBC News, Der Spiegel, SüdDeutsche Zeitung, The Hindu and more to discuss “Building the Journalism We Need”; and an awards ceremony honouring individuals who have worked to advance media freedom.
The livestream will be available on NDR’s website.
If you would like to attend in person, you can register to do so for free at the Congress website using the option “IPI World Congress Opening”. Alternatively, please contact IPI directly by telephone or email. Special reduced rates to attend the full Congress are also available for Hamburg-based journalists and students.
From spin and political propaganda to repressive laws, from orchestrated cyber attacks and the use of “troll armies” to a lack of funding and strong economic pressures, quality journalism faces numerous challenges. The 2017 IPI World Congress will examine:
-What is killing QUALITY JOURNALISM and how can we save it?
-How can we outsmart FAKE NEWS & PROPAGANDA and make truth stand out?
-Can DEMOCRACY survive without an independent media?
