Join us at IPIWoCo 2020 to share, plan for the future, and celebrate what journalism is and needs to be! We are more than a conference. We’re a voice. We’re a movement – for journalism. And this September 10-12, we’re planning at being back at Columbia University in New York City, where IPI first launched as the leading global voice for journalism back in 1950.
We’ll go to the heart of what matters: journalism that informs our communities, makes sense of the world we live in, and holds power to account. We’ll be talking about the infrastructure that journalism needs if we’re going to fulfill our promise to society and we’ll break it down into three programme lines:
* QUALITY JOURNALISM Stories you can trust: the best of journalism in the (dis)information age – from around the world and around the corner.
* FREEDOM & SAFETY The rights that let us do our job: press freedom, safety and a democratic media environment, all of which are under threat globally.
* BUSINESS & TECHNOLOGY A media business that sustains us: understanding our audience and the opportunities technology offers to deliver journalism and news products that delight and serve our communities.
The International Press Institute will celebrate its 70th anniversary at Columbia University, its founding location. IPI is honored to be hosted by Columbia University and the Columbia Graduate School of Journalism where IPI was founded in 1950 by 34 editors from 15 countries to defend journalistic quality and independence.
The 2020 Congress will see IPI members and other leading editors, journalists, media executives and experts from all over the world gather in New York for two-and-a-half days of engaging discussions, roundtables, workshops and Q&A sessions addressing key questions for today’s journalism.
