IPI marks World Press Freedom Day 2012

Joins colleagues around world in honouring contributions of journalists

International Press Institute (IPI) Executive Director Alison Bethel McKenzie issued the following statement today to commemorate World Press Freedom Day 2012:

“Hello. My name is Alison Bethel McKenzie. As executive director of the International Press Institute (IPI), I would like to remind you that today is May 3, World Press Freedom Day. It’s a special day in the media world. It’s the day where our voices join in solidarity to speak up for those who cannot speak up. In fact every day is World Press Freedom Day, because every day we fight for the rights of our colleagues around the world. We fight for a free and independent media. So today, please join us in recognizing our colleagues far and wide who have worked tirelessly to bring the truth to the masses. Thanks and happy May 3.”
