The Samoa Observer News Group, publisher of the Samoa Observer, the leading independent news outlet in the Pacific state of Samoa, will celebrate its 40th anniversary on August 24 in Apia, the country’s capital.
International Press Institute (IPI) Deputy Director Scott Griffen will travel to Samoa to deliver remarks on behalf of IPI’s global network. Samoa Observer Founder and Editor-in-Chief Savea Sano Malifa is a longtime IPI member and in 2000 was named an IPI World Press Freedom Hero in honour of his dedication to protecting press freedom and independent journalism in Samoa and the South Pacific region.
The celebration will also be attended by Samoa Prime Minister Tuilaepa Aiono Sailele Malielegaoi and other high-level Samoan officials as well as representatives of the diplomatic community.
