On 22 June 2021, Saúl Tijerina Rentería, journalist for Noticias en la Web and Police Acuña was assassinated in an extremely violent way. In the early morning, family members lost contact with Rentería. A few hours later, his body was found with a sign from a criminal organization, stating “this will happen to all the big guys in the state and to those collaborating with the state”. The journalist covered police and security information and collected information using a drone, providing local information for the Acuña region.
