Robert Franklin Martin, 64, a long-time reporter-videographer at Albuquerque, New Mexico station KRQE-TV, died on Sept. 16, 2017 when the Bell B206 news helicopter he was piloting crashed and burned in a field near a ghost town. Martin had been in nearby Roswell the previous night, covering Friday night football and “getting sports highlights from the air,” the station’s vice president and general manager said, adding that Martin was “gathering a few more shots” while traveling back to Albuquerque when the helicopter crashed. The cause of the crash was not immediately known.
