Pyotr Shevchenko, correspondent for the daily Kievskiye Vedomosti in Lugansk, in the Ukraine, found hanging in an abandoned building in Kiev on March 12, 1997. He had co-authored articles about disputes between the mayor of Lugansk and the local branch of the Ukrainian Security Services.
