Jairo Sousa was shot dead by unidentified men when he arrived at his Rádio Pérola FM in the northern state of Pára in the early morning of June 21. He was going to host his program “Show da Peróla.” Sousa has received death threats in the past. Police in Bragança, a municipality in northeast Pará, said he was shot in the back by a man who was riding a motorcycle driven by another man. Police said motive and those responsible have not been identified.
