On August 11, 2022, Allan González, host of Radio Switch 105.9 FM, and four of his colleagues at the outlet were murdered in the border city of Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua. The crew was recording in a commercial plaza located in the Pradera Dorada neighbourhood, when alleged members of organized crime carried out a series of attacks against civilians. The attacks resulted from a fight between two rival organized crime groups in a prison in Ciudad Juarez. The violence jumped from the prison to the streets of the city in the form of riots, arson attacks on businesses and shootings. The violent attack left 11 people dead, including González and his colleagues. Their labelled vehicle and camera equipment might have turned them into a target. Six people who belong to the Mexicles gang were arrested for their participation in these criminal acts. After the attack, other employees of the radio station received threats related to their coverage of the events.
