On 23 May 2025, journalist Vyacheslav Lakomkin came under Russian fire while traveling in a car with Ukrainian soldiers in Pokrovsk, as reported by Vot Tak, the Poland-based Russian-language TV channel that Lakomkin was reporting for. The reporter said that his group entered Pokrovsk, a city in Donetsk region located immediately near the front line, at nighttime, and that their car had been targeted by Russian forces. He explained that the car was equipped with drone detection systems, however these did not locate the device which reportedly attacked them: Lakomkin said that he saw the drone explode not far from the car, and that shrapnel from the explosion caused minor damage to the vehicle. The crew managed to evacuate despite the fact that the car had two flat tires as a result of the attack. No one was injured in the incident.
