On 25 June 2025, at least two Telegram channels published an AI-generated video of Ukraine’s minister for European integration, Olha Stefanishyna, using the logo of Ukrainian state-owned TV channel Freedom in the video. Inomovlennya, the Ukrainian state-owned media corporation which operates Freedom, issued a statement explaining that the video was false and was not produced by Freedom. In the excerpt, an AI-generated image of Stefanishyna could be seen claiming that the Ukrainian government was planning to ban Ukrainian women between the age of 18 and 27 from leaving the country. The supposed restrictions would supplement a pre-existing ban on men fit for military service leaving Ukraine, which is in force since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion. The information on alleged plans for a ban on young women leaving Ukraine, which Freedom debunked as fake news, was published by at least two Ukrainian Telegram channels with over 100 thousand followers each. The Telegram channels presented the fake news as true, citing unspecified “media reports”.
